Katherine Forson, KT5KMF
ARRL North Texas Section
Katherine recently accepted the position of Section Youth Coordinator for the ARRL North Texas Section. She was first licensed in 2013 at age 9, upgraded to General in 2017 and received her Extra ticket in 2018. She enjoys helping with the Plano Balloon Festival and Meals on Wheels as well as other public service events. She is also a trained storm spotter and a member of Collin County ARES.
Katherine has competed with several different amateur radio based science fair projects at the district, regional and state levels. Her project that used the FT8 digital mode to explore how time of day affects radio propagation won second place in the Physics and Astronomy category at the 2018 Texas Science and Engineering Fair. She has also won special awards at the Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair, both junior and senior levels, from the McKinney Amateur Radio Club.
Katherine has many interests. She began playing piano at age 4. She is a sophomore and honor student at Shepton High School in Plano, and is a member of the Silver Stampede Band where she plays tuba, sousaphone and is learning bass trombone. She is an altar server and children’s lector at her church.
Katherine is very excited about the position of Section Youth Coordinator and hopes to make a difference!
I would love for our section to have a dynamic team of youth members as an integral part of our Section Management structure; youth who are active and not only participate in section events but create their own youth event and contest teams.
