North Texas Meets Arkansas at Field Day Site

Jun 26, 2017

North Texas Section Manager Jay Urish W5GM set out early Saturday morning to visit various Field Day sites in remote areas of the section.  He couldn't predict meeting up with another section manager at the same site!

"I did the East Texas tour and the size of our great state was put in perspective," Urish said.  One of the visits was at the combined Four States Amateur Radio Club and Radio Amateurs of Cass County site at Spring Lake Park in Texarkana, Texas.  The combined club site operated using the KD5RCA club call sign, but there was a third club present.  The Atlanta Rabbits Amateur Radio Club operated the GOTA (Get On The Air) station using their club call sign, KA5AHS.

Urish announced his plans to visit the site earlier in the month.  "I am pleased the two clubs will be operating in one location," he said. "I try to visit as many ARRL-affiliated clubs during Field Day weekend all over the section, and combined club locations make that easier, particularly in remote areas of the section like Northeast Texas."

It's always great for a club in a remote location to have an ARRL official, particularly a section manager, stop by for a visit.  The Four States Amateur Radio Club and the Radio Amateurs of Cass County rolled out the proverbial welcome mat for Urish.  What nobody expected, however, was the arrival of the Arkansas Section Manager!

The arrival of Arkansas Section Manger Jay Ferguson N5LKE was unexpected, but it was anything but unwelcome.  The timing couldn't be any better, as the two section managers visited the site at the same time!

The two section managers weren't the only ARRL officials represented.  Pictured above, Urish was accompanied by two of his new appointees, Morris and Cass County Emergency Coordinator Danny Richard KG5ESG and Assistant Section Manager Jerry Goodson W5BFF.  Ferguson was accompanied by the Arkansas Section Affiliated Club Coordinator Launa Bookwalter KB5LJO.

Texarkana is situated halfway in Texas and Arkansas.  The Four States Amateur Radio Club is based out of Texarkana is affiliated with the Arkansas Section as well as the North Texas Section.

Urish and Ferguson took office earlier this year.
